A number of sites have maintained builds of Chromium OS. It's unlikely you'll want to build it yourself from source, so there are versions ready for VirtualBox and for running and installing off a USB drive. We're using this Chrome OS build, which is kept current.

Step 1: Bootable USB. First, download and extract the Chrome OS image file. Then burn it to your USB using Win32Disk imager.
unfortunately it isn't possible to change it, this is due to Chrome OS "requiring" a secure boot however it can boot without it. You should be able to change your BIOS to a legacy based boot to which this should then work for you. This will work for a USB drive too but you have to use "chromeos-install...
